McClatchy Buys Citizen Journalism Sites FresnoFamous & ModestoFamous

We missed this from earlier this month: McClatchy is not just disposing off properties, but has bought two very small ones: Its chain newspaper Freso Bee has bought citizen journalism site FresnoFamous. Also purchased by McClatchy is ModestoFamous, sister site to FresnoFamous founded in May 2006. McClatchy also owns the Modesto Bee.
FresnoFamous was founded in 2004 by 26-year-old Jarah Euston as community portal, with blogs, podcasts, Flickr photo galleries, and forums. It will remain a separate site, as will the Modesto version. Some more details on this deal here.

Hi Rafat:  broke this one on 12/15—but keep your eye on what’s going on with this stuff…and where McClatchy begins to concentrate its holdings…could be seeing the resurgence of regionally focused corporate publishers perhaps?
