MySpace is moving fast, and it has to: it is hiring a former federal prosecutor to be its first chief security officer. Hemanshu Nigam, previously the director of consumer security outreach and child safe computing at the Microsoft, will now oversee safety, education and privacy programs and law enforcement affairs.
Nigam also served as a federal prosecutor against Internet child exploitation for the U.S. Department of Justice, an adviser to a Congressional commission on online child safety, and an adviser to the White House on cyber stalking.

Staci adds: I was in Atlanta morning-drive traffic when a radio headline blared something like “MySpace finally steps up the plate” in reference to its campaign about online child safety. That’s despite months of efforts by News Corp. execs to stress the commitment to online safety. The one-two combo of the campaign and delivery of the promised security czar should make it harder for critics.
