Napster/Snocap Founder Shawn Fanning To Launch Rupture, an Online Gaming Community; Gets Seed
So reports BW, Shawn Fanning, founder of Napster is going to launch Rupture, a virtual social community for online gamers, in the next few months. He raised seed money from a group of investors, including Ron Conway and Joi Ito. The service is a layer above popular games such as World of Warcraft, and using an add on or a software download, Rupture taps into the game to automatically pull together character names, profiles, and resources, and publish them on a personalized site. Players will be able to chat in groups or with other individuals and download other addons and game demos.

Nice workaround:
- Fanning’s Snocap with MySpace, then Fanning carves out social online gamers with Rupture.
Are we finally going to see some well architected and niche-branded social networks?

Hey Adrian!
Rupture does look like a great concept, though not necessarily original. Not sure if the niche WORLD CRAFT will lead to wide or limited success?
As we both know, brand identity and intellectual rights holders will lead this catagory; this will enable longevity in the gaming space.
