News Site Newsvine Gets Funding

Newsvine, a Seattle-based news starup developing a social news site, has received less than $5 million (the company hasn’t publicly announced it…this is the guesstimate from the article linked above) in funding from Second Avenue Partners. The company operating in stealth mode for the past few months, and has received some attention from other blogs who’ve seen the service.
The founders are former Disney-Starwave employees. The site will mix mainstream stories from AP and ESPN along with user-contributed and tagged content…
Is this really novel? I’ve heard of countless other sites offering or promising to offer similar functionalities…I guess $5 million will tell us the answer down the line.
