The Buffalo-based content aggregation and distribution firm Synacor has received another $17 million in capital to expand. Synacor builds and runs “portals” or home pages for mid to small sized ISPs…. For example, Charter Communications relies on Synacor for its portal at Charter.net.
Revenue is on track to reach $25 million this year, CEO Ron Frankel said in the story, about doubling the previous year and putting the company at a break-even level. This was the third round of funding since the company started in 2001….Synacor was formed in 2001 by the merger of Chek.com, an e-mail service, and MyPersonal, a builder of Web portals. The company recapitalized in 2002, causing a sharp write-down of earlier investments.
