It was on, then it was denied - now it’s happening: Samsung has partnered with digital music provider MusicNet on a new a line of portable media players with a built-in music store. Technology and the content library for the service is provided by MusicNet and will feature on a range of new MP3 and media player devices, including the K5, launching later this year. Users can buy individual tracks or whole albums from an archive of two million songs provided by both major and indie labels. It will be rolled out in the UK, Germany and France, and later extended across Europe and Asia. No indication when the US will be introduced, but the name, prices (and no doubt more details) will be announced at the IFA conference in Berlin in the next few days.
MusicNet said this is a first for Europe in that it’s a device directly tied to a premium subscription service, offering streaming and subscriptions either via PC or Samsung devices.
