Social Networking Site SodaHead Gets $4.25 Million Funding

SodaHead, a Santa Clarita-based social networking startup headed by Jason Feffer, former VP of Operations for MySpace, has raised about $4.5 million in funding, reports SocalTech. The round was led by Mohr Davidow Ventures, and also included participation by the Tech Coast Angels.
Om reports that the site, not yet launched, is targeting grown ups who want to have grown up conversations about like price of natural gas or war in Iraq.

Like they don’t have a million of these things already for all of the posting boards and forums out there?  What else does this Soda Head thing have to offer? Seems to me that another chat room for grown ups does not really warrant $4.5 million in venture capital and would be better spent elsewhere.

There’s a site called Gather.com that does the same exact thing.  They recently raised $5MM.  Seems like the space is becoming a bit saturated.
