Sports Programmer World Championship Sports Network Receives Funding
Multi-platform sports programmer World Championship Sports Network (WCSN) is receiving another round of funding, this time from Polaris Venture Partners, and joined by the Pisces Fund, a San Francisco-based private equity fund. This financing followed a prior strategic investment by Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM), announced in December 2005.
The funding will help WCSN to move from online-only to “cross-platform broadband and linear cable sports network”, the company said.
From one of the investors, on his blog: “While we all get to watch things like skiing, snowboarding, swimming, track and field, volleyball, etc., during national broadcasts of the Olympic Games, outside of the Olympics, the vast majority of world championship caliber events for these sports are not accessible anywhere in North America…That’s where WCSN comes in”.
