UK Newspaper Sun Quietly Launches MySun Community Site

In UK, The Sun’s much-rumoured MySun feature soft launched this week, inviting the readers of the UK’s most read newspaper to contribute to its website. “You are the new Editors of The Sun” proclaims the welcome page. Users can start their own blog, set up a profile, join debates and contribute stories, pictures and comment on breaking news. There is also a personalization feature which asks users to select categories of stories and displays those on a ‘MyPage’ homepage. The service is free to use and is all moderated in house. MySun has been in development for a year and the project was strongly denied when MediaGuardian printed a spoiler on the feature back in March. The name is reference to the Sun’s sister business MySpace of course, but there’s little similarity to Sun Online’s wilder social net cousin, at least for now. More on this when we talk to Sun Online tomorrow.
