UK Online Ad Spend Still Booming, Outstrip Print By End 2006
The UK’s web advertising market boomed to £917 million ($1.7 billion) for the first half of 2006 - a 40.3 percent year-on-year increase. The market is predicted to overtake press ad spend by the end of the year and is already worth half of TV advertising. Data by IAB, PWC and WARC puts print ad spend at 11.4 percent and web at 10.5 percent of total ad spend, up from 7.3 percent. TV dropped by 1.3 percent.

- Web ad spend already outstrips outdoor, consumer magazines and radio.
- Paid-for search listings accounted for 57.9 percent of online spend - a 57.7 percent increase to £531.3 million.
- Online display made up 23.5 percent - a 32.3 percent increase to £215.9 million.
- Online classifieds accounted for 17.7 percent - a 23.4 percent increase to £162.2 million.
- Overall UK 2006 online ad spend is predicted to pass £2 billion ($3.8 billion).
