Yes, not making it up…Metacafe, a video sharing site, has raised what seems to be a rather high $15 million round of funding, from Benchmark Capital and Accel Partners. MetaCafe uses a filtering algorithm to prescreen videos before they appear on the site, compared to others which let everything up except adult and hate content. Only about two dozen of which are newly approved each day.
Founded in 2003, the company has about 50 employees, and will use its new funding to ramp up its infrastructure and open an office in San Francisco.
The site is the fourth most popular video sharing site in UK…not sure about U.S.
