Virgin Media—the new name of UK cable company NTL Telewest—will be relaunched on Tursday in UK, backed by a $40 million ad campaign and fronted by film star Uma Thurman. The campaign will see the launch of NTL Telewest as a quadruple-play UK operator offering TV, internet and fixed and mobile phone services following its merger last year with Virgin Mobile.
Guardian: In one teaser TV ad, Thurman encourages viewers to download “not just a little bit, all of it”; in the second she talks of access to hundreds of movies.
Independent: Virgin Media will this week launch a raft of new services, including at least one new channel. A new DVR called V+, compatible with HD, will be introduced that will have greater memory than Sky’s equivalent Sky+ box. Also, Virgin is holding talks with the corporation to discuss whether the BBC iPlayer technology could be incorporated to create a new channel on cable.
