Wetpaint Receives $9.5 Million In Second Round Funding

Wiki publisher Wetpaint has raised $9.5 million through second funding led by Accel Partners. Venturebeat reports that the funding comes after Google bought popular wiki site JotSpot last year and closed that company to new users. With JotSpot lying dormant, Wetpaint is poised to capitalize on the relatively open field, as the publishing of wikis becomes more mainstream, the thinking goes.
Wetpaint says users have generated more than 150,000 wikis in six months, and that the company has struck partnerships with companies such as AOL, ABC, CBS, American Express Publishing, T-Mobile and HTC, which have created community sites for their users. Wetpaint has already raised $5.25 million, which leads Venurebeat to ask whether $9.5 million is really necessary for a software that is so cheap to make and distribute. Release
