Wikipedia Founder’s Commercial Venture Wikia Raises $4 Million

Wikia, the ad-supported Wiki platform company founded by Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, has received $4 million in funding. The invetors included Bessemer Venture Partners, Omidyar Network and its angel investors, including Marc Andreessen, Dan Gillmor, Reid Hoffman, Joichi Ito, and Mitch Kapor.

Wikia is an ad-supported platform for developing and hosting community-based wikis. Specifically, Wikia “enables groups to share information, news, stories, media and opinions that fall outside the scope of an encyclopedia”, as the company describes it.
