A. Raja Replaces Maran As Communications And IT Minister
Post Dayanidhi Maran’s resignation, the Environment and Forests Minister A. Raja has been appointed the minister for Communications and IT. Maran, whose resignation has been accepted by the President, seems to have left the Telecom industry in a state of limbo – the policy on 3G spectrum is still to be announced, and one doesn’t know whether his proposal to abolish roaming charges will be implemented. Media reports on Maran’s tenure have been varied: this report in the Business Standard suggests that he favored GSM operators and was anti-CDMA, while most other publications have lauded his achievements. Incidentally, the share price of Sun TV, owned by Dayanidhi Maran’s brother Kalanidhi Maran, have fallen 7.7 percent since the announcement of the formers resignation.
Raja is a lawyer by profession, and has been in charge of the Environment Ministry for the last three years. CNBC-TV18 painted a rather glum picture of his “achievements” over the past couple of years – apparently, several key posts that the ministry oversees have remained vacant during his tenure.
The TRANSFER, in the Communocation/IT Ministry, is Possibly a Case of ONE-Step << Back-Ward's and TWO Step's FAST >>> Forward (From Remote Controlled CHENAI Bpo).
A Raja, has Confirmed the proposed Move to Abolish Roaming Charges is to be Implemented.
The Spectrum/3G Policy is to be moved after DOT finalises plan's to Auction Spectrum to a More COMPETITIVE Global Player Scenarioo. Logical as the Indian rate of 6 Million Plus additional Subscriber's is likely to increase Sizeably, on opening the 2nd Largest Global Population…to 3G+ , by openin up the 900 MhZ Spectrum.
WIll broadband be made free by 2009 is what the question is
I never thought it possible…Somebody's got to pay for bandwidth, and I don't think the government will.
I think the plan was to interconnect ISPs using NIXI, and push for hosting servers in India to minimise cost of international bandwidth. That would reduce cost for the ISP, and hence cost-to-consumer.
So they might make broadband free for the consumer by absorbing cost, but probably not free for the ISPs. My guess is, that there was some rider attached, which wasn't mentioned. Just like in the case of MTNL and BSNL moving to 2mbps. I'm on MTNL, and still on 256kbps.
Atleast if the cost of broadband is reduced , it would be great., I too have 256 Kbps connection from airtel (as usual, itz the worst service)., and 999 for a 256 kbps connection is too much!
i searched for the full name of the minister a.raja…
can u please help me knowing it.
