Airtel Launches GPS Based Navigation For Blackberry 8800
Airtel has launched a GPS based navigation application, which will be available on the GPS enabled BlackBerry 8800 to begin with. The navigation system has maps of Delhi and NCR, Bangalore, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh and Kolkata. Users can also purchase map information and area coverage details of Europe and North America here; Airtel has launched the service in collaboration with Swedish firm Wayfinder Systems. Airtel’s offering a six month free trial to its Blackberry 8800 users, with charges only for data download.
Of course, what limits this service is that it’s available only for Blackberry 8800 users. About the availability of paid maps for Europe and the US, Chetan Patil wonders if we really need that when one can install Google Maps. MapMyIndia apparently has a mobile map service with MTNL – anybody tried that?
