Bolt.com Shuts Down, After Failed Acquisition By GoFish

So the video-sharing and once-upon-a-time-community site Bolt.com has shut down, after GoFish decided to abandon the site’s acquisition. Not that this is a surprise: Bolt founders have moved on and are now occupied with WikiYou, the Mayfield and First Round Capital-funded startup they launched last month. A notice on the site says: “Please be advised that the operations of Bolt, Inc. and Bolt.com have ceased. Net Revolution, Inc. and Bolt, Inc. have executed an Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors effective as of August 14, 2007.” The details of why GoFish’s attempted acquisition of Bolt failed are here in this post.

Kinda sad, since the company existed for a long time, since 1996, started as part of the NYC-based Internet consulting firm Concrete Media. It morphed from a community site, much before social networking as a phrase came into being. Then it morphed into a video sharing site, but that didn’t work either. The company was owned by the employees since a management-led buyout in 2004. I would assume if nothing else, the domain name would be worth something.
