@ CTIA: Show Kicks Off With Packed Keynote; Data Revenues Soaring
CTIA IT & Entertainment officially kicks off today with a packed morning keynote, featuring a roundtable discussion by carrier CEOs, including T-Mobile USA’s Robert Dotson, Sprint (NYSE: S) Nextel’s Dan Hesse and Verizon Wireless’s (NYSE: VZ) Lowell McAdam. Also speaking today is Yahoo’s (NSDQ: YHOO) Marco Boerries, and Clearwire’s (NSDQ: CLWR) Chairman Craig McCaw, and John Stanton of Trilogy Partners.
Steve Largent, CTIA’s Chairman opens the show, welcoming everyone, and saying that the wireless industry is weathering the economic storms. It provided some results from a new survey. In the first six months of 2008, data revenue totaled $14.8 billion, or 20 percent of all revenues. A year ago, it was closer to 10 percent. Text messaging is clearly not just a fad: there’s now 75 billion text messages sent every month, that’s 160 percent increase over last June.
We had just got our US short code approved in 2006 when they announced 12 billion for the same period compared to 5 billion for June 2005. So, from 5 to 75 billion or a 1,400% increase in 3 years ….the fastest growing communication technology in history doesn’t look like going out of style any time soon.
Figures like these are especially pleasing to us at Interlinked Media…. for over 6 years we’ve kept our services, and our clients, focused on maximizing the capabilities of the humble yet powerful text message and we’ve no doubt this medium will continue to grow and be around for a very long time.
Wow. Did anyone see these numbers out of the CTIA this morning? 75 Billion Messages per month I can't believe those numbers. When we introduced Interlinked Media to the United Stated market in July of 2006, we (the USA) were only doing about 12 billion messages per month in the aggregate. When we convinced the Hillary Clinton campaign that they should be using text messages as a primary means of connecting with their voters that number had "swollen" to nearly 18 billion messages per month. Now look at these numbers 75 billion messages for June. That is a 625% increase over when we started.
Is there any doubt that this medium is going to be around for a while? From Presidential campaigns to Brands it has been great fun to be working at the forefront of this technology. I can only imagine what the next three years will bring! Michael Anderson, VP Business Dev Interlinked Media. http://www.interlinkedmedia.com
