Digital Ad Network PayPod To Launch In Three Weeks; Too Many Networks?
Close on the heels of the launch of online digital advertising network DGM, agencyfaqs reports that US based Paypod has been testing its ad network with Webdunia as the publisher. Paypod has plans for launching an online marketplace for both Internet and Mobile ads. Mobile ads will include video and banner ads. Apparently, the company is in talks with Mobile2Win and Bugzy, as well as Reliance. The Reliance angle doesn’t surprise me – Paypod was the company that launched online cricket based social network CrickeM, which had tied up with Reliance World as its broadband partner. CrickeM was then rechristened CricTV.
Sure is getting crowded in the online networks space: Komli has received funding from DFJ and Helion Ventures; Smile Interactive has Tyroo, a network that recently hit 1000 publishers…having online ad agency Quasar as a sister concern must help; dgm India launched yesterday. I guess publishers are spoilt for choice. (And let’s not forget Google Adwords)
This is getting interesting . this is not just about [potentially ]sheer big size of mobile user base in india . have you noticed that lately a lot of mobile Ad companies from Europe are setting up shop in india . why ?
My intuition is that there is one more aspect of this mad rush to get a stake in Indian Mobile Advertisement market . and it is AdMob .
AdMob is still very focus on US/Europe . India inspite of being a front runner in mobile revolution , is still not a mature market for companies like AdMob . right now they are busy establishing them self as leader in other market .
now given their deep pocket they will not shy from acquiring one or two companies in those market ? if a company has presesnce in India /Asia that will get an edge as this will give Admob a direct foothold in a new geography
and Once they point their guns toward India [Asia ] there will be so many player doing so many things, noone having scale and all anxious for a lease of life .
this is an ideal setting for Admob [remember they have deep pockets ] . Why do ground work if you can snap few startup for loose change .and it will be more fun if AdMob got bought or went public in the mean time .
but again this is my intuition only i might be wrong too
