Digital Chocolate Latest iPhone Convert
Digital Chocolate was a late-comer to the iPhone, releasing its first games for the platform in December last year. That didn’t seem to be a major issue in terms of sales though: “Penguin was No. 1 through Christmas. Tower Blocks was No. 1 in February. Brick Breaker Revolution made it to No. 1 in April. That
iPhone is "tethered to a computer?" Explain within the context of the criticism in this article.
I doubt if the iPhone and iPod Touch will always be tied to a computer. I believe that once the SDK is developed enough, everything will be able to be bought and downloaded right over Apple mobile devices with an iTunes app without any physical connnection using 3G, WiFi or in the future WIMAX.
Not sure about yours, but the iPhone in our household requires access to a desktop with iTunes 7.7 (as of now) for set-up, syncing, backup, certain functionality, etc. You can download apps without going through the computer, of course, but to set up an account to buy them I needed the computer.
You obviously need a computer to set up your iPhone (there's a store called the Apple store that will set you up for free :-) ). Create or log in an account and you are set. You can update and buy apps via WiFi. You can buy movies, music, etc, etc via Wifi. If you set up to sync your contacts, calendar and email through PUSH – you NEVER need to sync that.
Should you back up your phone, of course but if it's not important to you, after you leave the apple store – you are good to go though clearly it's a good idea to back up your iphone files but itunes will keep track of everything even if you never actually log into itunes.
That's why the iPhone wins the consumer smartphone race. Apple has thought of everything.
That little icon that says App Store on your iPhone/iPod – yeah, you can use that to purchase apps without being "tethered" to anything.
You can't update the firmware over the air though, and firmware updates are frequent, and important.
It's much more tethered then the G1, which automatically prompts to update it's firmware over the air.
Hawkins was talking about the problems he saw with the iPhone as it is now — as Constable Odo said, things that are likely to change in the future. Just as "isn't 3G" was once an issue with the iPhone but no longer is.
