Come on, No point in bashing google for unnecessary things. First thing google is going to come up is using that GPS serve you gas station or what ever closet to you that's why Andriod is open on Maps and mashups. T-Mobile is good enough in its place but hey they do not serve the handset and that is core play of Andriod so they would not control what google servers or not.
People are still in denial or try to make other's opinion in denial is such stupid. I did not see a single great product from USA or Gannet on Mobile. No 4info is not a great product ((at least for me)). Andriod is going to be superb as per as app. base goes. What i suspect is only prob in adoption with data plan but for that we have to wait and see how it is played out.
Misinformation much? If you actually do try to search for "gas station" in googles mobile site
http://www.google.com/m/search?mrestrict=xhtmlonly&q=gas+stations
you're then greeted with a location box. Key in your zip code and there you have it, a list of nearby gas stations. Click on one to get a map. 3 steps and you have something you want.
As Ajay said, with Andriod you don't even have to enter your zip code.
In all fairness, Yahoo's oneSearch can do this also.
Miguel, you can try http://www.bywifi.com. It provides better mobile transcoded result for internet web pages.
Probably depends on what country your in as well. In the UK, Spain or Germany you get completely pointless results if you search for gas station:
http://www.google.co.uk/m/search?mrestrict=xhtml&q=gas+station&site=mobile
Try searching for a mobile game or ringtone. Last time I searched for games I ended up on a web page with flash games which don't work on my mobile and then on a ringtone page on the web where I could input my phone number which then directed me to a WAP-page which was 3 extra steps rather than just giving me a mobile ringtones page. I don't understand how anyone can object to the fact that google mobile currently provides terrible and irrelevant results.
"Try searching for a mobile game or ringtone. Last time I searched for games I ended up on a web page with flash games which don’t work on my mobile"
In my humble opinion it would be benificial for Google to come up with a mobile optimized only search index for mobile web users or at least a clear specification per search listing if and or how compatable a site is for mobile browsing.
Personally I support the .mobi standards for mobile publishing. I can see this as becoming an intuitive choice for people searching for info with their mobile phones as .mobi pages.
