Google Earth Controversy: Search Engine Blames Satellite Companies
Google seems to be hesitant to blur sensitive images which have security implications. It has put the blame on satellite companies instead. Andrew McLaughlin, Head of Global Public Policy at Google Inc, told The Economic Times: “We take security concerns seriously but obscuring images will not help. We have never degraded image quality…The images available on Google Earth are also available for purchase from various satellite companies in market. The government needs to deal with this issue at the level of satellite companies because they are selling images to us…mapping services etc are available commercially…sometimes free of cost and sometimes for a price. If images damage security then they need to talk to satellite companies. Blurring needs to be done by satellite companies…targeting Google Earth will not fix the problem.
Once we understand our humanity represents evolution in motion, we might not fear the technology we created. Take a moment to visualize the wondrous milestones cultures have eclipsed. People have heard about the "seven wonders of the world", now thanks to technology everyone can see and experience the world and much more at there fingertips.
Thanks to Google, Sun Microsystems, Cisco, Microsoft, IBM and thousands of others, our world has embarked on a adventure of discovery and creation. Time and life within is in constant motion. We can't go back to the relative serenity and security of the 50's. Mankind is evolving threw the technology we created. We cannot stop whats coming. If people don't like satellite images displaying there backyard to the world, then use technology to design privacy and security. Don't short circuit the time machine.
