In-Game Advertising Not Yet A Success, Reliance Entry A Blessing? – Games2Win CEO
Games2Win CEO Alok Kejriwal has found that online gamers switch off a game sooner than expected when interrupted by in-game advertising. An agencyfaqs interview quotes Kejriwal as saying “…in-game advertising in India will still take maybe a few months to evolve because the consumer has to appreciate that the content is coming free to him because of the advertising.”
Another tit bit in the tete a tete that our readers could be interested in (or should be vary about) is the industry size estimate or should we rather say guesstimate? Kejriwal admits to not being too sure about the size — which I think is really strange considering he is in the industry — but goes on to throw a Rs. 100 crore number as possible cybercafe gaming revenues and another Rs.10 crore to Rs. 20 crore as possible pirated gaming CD sales. As per an IAMAI-IMRB report, the size of the Online gaming industry in India, as of Jan 2007, was around Rs. 21 crores. Revenue accruals from the organized cybercafe market were at Rs.12.17 core. Now, who do we believe?
One last statement of Kejriwal that really cracked me up was his response to Reliance’s entry into his industry. “I think it’s brilliant,” he says (do you believe that?) “When Reliance comes into an industry, it is blessed.” I don’t think any competitor of Reliance would consider it a blessing to be on the opposite team, unless of course the promoters hope to pocket a nice profit by selling their company to the big guys.
its surely a sarcastic statement-reliance is loosing its charm as an aggressive company with its ugly displace of money power
probably hoping for a buy out or something which allows them to sit back and stop worrying?
mone goes money comes wont work in an online gaming industry.,
These guyz should provide something an interface where users can download a software and install games and play even while offline, where ads are updated every time the user connects
This provide another medium for the users to connect with the company and their games.,
Most of these i start – you start – all start concept will never work without innovation
Sarathy: Zapak already has that with boonty. Rediff also tried the same. Not sure if that works out with office and cybercafe usage.
Nikhil, can you give a link to that?, I think i missed it in their site,
I was mentioning something similar to what realarcade.com is offering, but not with third party games but a software loaded with these gaming companies own games
A huge potential business model? Not online but console gaming in a the same format as karaoke bars.
So i come in a with bunch of friends.. challenge them to games on the wii (no, not the xbox and ps but wii – its physical) and buy drinks and popcorn and spend a fun evening.
First we need to fix the net and connectivity – Nikhil still cant connect to the world on his mobile thanks to airtel and on his computer thanks to mtnl…
and we are talking about gaming???

Mobstir: an update…am using Airtel GPRS (hence able to check up on wap sites and try applications before writing). Though twitter appears to be blocked, unfortunately. MTNL is still troublesome, and has been so for a month now.
Have been posting via a cybercafe – a Reliance Web World that is the only reliable cybercafe in a 5km radius, in spite of its irritating login interface with the Levi's advertising popup, and no firefox. The WebWorld I have to frequent is close to Delhi University, and of the (approx) 16 PCs there, six to eight of them are consistently being used for LAN gaming. Saw a 60 year old struggling with Need For Speed yesterday (no pun intended).
Thanx for the linkz,
Weel, thats a typical business man answer… anytime that you ask someone about a big fish or rival entering the field the answer that you'll get it is: "thas good news for the industry's growth!!"
when a big player enters a new industry – he/she start a very important process – awareness. their deep pockets ensure that everyone finds out what the industry has the offer. brings it into focus. makes journos write articles on it :)
