Magazines Plan Off-Portal, User Generated Sites

Condé Nast Interactive is planning to take a number of its mobile efforts off-portal after increased interest from advertisers. The title to head off-portal will be Glamour in September, followed by GQ, Vogue, CN Traveller, Brides and Stylefinder. The sites — developed by Momac — will incorporate user-generated content, such as the ability for visitors to upload images, post comments and chat reports NMA. Emap is preparing to launch a refreshed version of FHM Mobile across operator portals, beginning with 3, before rolling out the site off-portal. “FHM Mobile is to be the first time that the publisher has closely tied its YoSpace platform to a mobile site. Emap acquired the user-generated content expert behind 3′s SeeMeTV for 8.7 million pounds (US$17.4 million) in February…”It’s the first time we’ve had such close interaction,” said Mike Burgess, Emap mobile creative director. “Girls will be able to post stills and maybe get into the magazine.”
