Update: Mail Today Lays Off Eight Editorial Staffers
Mail Today, the Delhi-based morninger that is published by a joint venture between Living Media India Ltd (The India Today Group) and UK’s Associated Newspapers Ltd (ANL), has laid off 8 editorial staffers from its New Delhi newsroom, according to a person familiar with the situation. The India Today Group is India’s largest magazine publisher by revenues and ANL, the publisher of UK’s Daily Mail (LSE: DMGT), is part of the Daily Mail and General Trust, one of Europe’s largest media companies. ANL holds a 26% stake in Mail Today Newspapers Pvt. Ltd, the publisher of the Berliner-sized daily.
Living Media CEO Ashish Bagga denied that there have been layoffs. “There have been no layoffs at Mail Today,” he said.
In December, India Today had discontinued its Bengali edition. Some 17 staffers had lost jobs then.
Correction: Bagga told us that Mail Today‘s editorial staffers number 150, and not 80, as we had earlier incorrectly implied. We regret the error.
I hope that the news wasnât right because the population of unemployed people are getting bigger and bigger as an effect of economic crisis.
Mail Today isn't a Berliner. You may want to correct this.
Yes the news is correct. I know three people in Mail Today who have been asked to resign bec of the slowdown
