MakeMytrip Awaits Ministry Approval To Sell Rail Tickets
Online travel portal MakeMytrip.com is awaiting the approval of the railway ministry to sell railway tickets as well as room bookings for railway budget hotels on its Web site. For now, train tickets can be booked online only on Indian Railway sites. [via Business Standard ] The article didn’t mention the revenue sharing pattern of the deal but given the high volume of online railway booking — nearly 50,000 online railway tickets getting booked everyday– one can expect MakeMytrip to profit nicely from this tie up. I am sure the deal would have required a great deal of lobbying and could just be the reason for MakeMytrip’s ambitious outlook of more than doubling revenue to Rs. 1,260 crore this fiscal from Rs. 562 crore a year earlier.
The daily successfully booked tickets on IRCTC is a number closer to 35,000 per day – more or less consistent over the last 3/4 months. Cash Card transactions are around 20% of these volumes – I presume most of these are 'agent' generated transactions.
Should MMT gets the approval – can't see how others would be denied ; so one will most probably see all other travel and ticketing portals offering it too. So well we will now have a new breed of railway ticket e-agents!!
Would be interesting to watch if the portals would position Railways as the 'lowest fare' option in competition to the LCA's
Yup, shoud do wonders for the MMT topline…specailly if they back it up with a call centre for voice bookings!
Dear Hawk Eye
Your comment really gives a new thought. Still as far as the convenient of booking a rail ticket online is concerned, I think this market will grow hence all OTA will have more profit. I think it will be easy for end users (in front of a computer) to book rail ticket; you may look at the other end it will lower the q of ticket booking counter of a railway station.
I will go a step ahead saying I will appreceate if govt implement a system to allow OTAs to book local/short journey rail ticket also.
The better way to search Indian trains looks great and it open fast, no pop-up, user friendly. Every information in a single page. This concept is good and some of the features like calendar, train running day has not come in a single website in this reviews. the most important features i have seen in this site that if the user does not know the station code then also he can see all the trains and it is only website which have a drop menu box for the important station from where you can choose the station name and also it has a date calendar from you can choose the date and it show the running day of the train so that you can know which day of the week this train is running. the other most important feature I have seen in this website that it show the train which does not have the reservation coach for the benefit of the user and they are showing the passenger train also which is also not available in any website. This site will enable the users to search train route and compare fares of most of the trains in India.

This site look is good and also this is the only one in this group which search multi trains and links and I am very impressed about this features. It open fast it does not have pop-up and advertisement and also it has more features then all the above sites. The only fault i have seen in this site is the some of trains search are not showing the fast time in multi search trains. I am really very impressed by this site we cannot find any fault with this site they are updating regularly and also putting new features every month
