Today, ringtones still account for the lion
There is a new mobile video servcie called blueapple.mobi.
The service is very simple to use. Once the user is on the blueapple.mobi a WAP portal, they can search for the video content they would like to watch. Blueapple will return to the user, a list of all relevant videos. Blueapple will either stream or download the video depending on the user’s phone and operator parameters. With blueapple.mobi, mobile users can find exactly the video they want, including user-generated content from many popular Internet sites. Users can also share favorites with their friends.
Blueapple.mobi works by encoding and streaming video on-the-fly directly from an Internet site – everything publicly available on that site is also available on blueapple.mobi. at exactly the same time. Blueapple.mobi is the first true bridge between Internet and mobile video. Blueapple.mobi is carrier-independent. Go to http://www. blueapple.mobi on your mobile phone.
Over here at Zannel, a WAP-based mobile video and stills viewing/sharing service that just launched open beta back in March, we're seeing better-than-expected growth every month. Per a term I've heard a lot lately in the advertising world, consumer "engagement" is strong, as is retention. Our current release is purposely marked "beta" but we are driving to a 1.0 soon that will make it even more engaging for our users.
Thanks to the i-Phone mobile video capabilities are becoming expected rather than a surprise to the uneducated consumer. It reminds me of the "I want my MTV" campaign back in the early 1980's when cable carriers were forced by the consumer demand driven by those ads to pick up MTV ubiquitously. The time for reasonable data plans, 3G networks and carrier friendliness to such networks is drawing nigh.
We do autodetect on your device, so even if you type in http://www.zannel.com on your phone we'll direct to our wap site, but either go there on the web or check out wap.zannel.com. I'd be interested to get reader feedback.
