Nokia Launches TV-Enabled Handset in India
Nokia announced the India launch of its DVB-H-enabled N92 handset, a multimedia device that will support live broadcast mobile TV, the PTI reports. The company said its test results define India as one of the top countries to deploy live Mobile TV. Doordarshan launched its Mobile TV pilot with Nokia in May and Motorola too has confirmed that they are in talks with broadcasters for mobile TV trials. Nikhil has pointed out earlier that DVB-H is a terrestrial broadcasting technology, and only public broadcaster Doordarshan has license for terrestrial broadcasting, hence a monopoly.
The PTI story doesn’t mention the price of the N92 but one can assume that it certainly won’t be cheap. And while the new handset’s sales could pickup as a status symbol, wonder if anyone would actually want to view Doordarshan on their handsets. Besides, without 3G technology, mobile TV quality will be anything but great.
3G has nothing to do with Mobile TV. Get it right for once guys (and girls). Mobile TV (DVBH & Media Flo) are broadcast technologies and have nothing to do with mobile phones (Nokia, LG etc etc), mobile technologies (GSM, CDMA, 3G etc).
THis is just confusion being created by Nokia to sell more handsets. Actually, Mobile TV is nothing more than DTT (digital terristrial transmission) for small tv screens. So it will be clear and crisp on small screens and bad and pixelated when watched on large screens (TV & Computer Screens).
MediaFlo is said to be a better technology option as compared to DVBH as it allows faster channel switching time, better compression (more channels in same bandwidth) and is the only one commercially launched by both GSM & CDMA players (in the US).
Mobile TV is about television on small screens (whether on your phone or on the tv screen in the back of the car). Its Nokia who wants you to buy more handsets that keeps you from watching TV on any device other than their "really expensive" handset.
The price for the N92 is supposed to be around 40k! thats what i heard from teh nokia priority store!
Nokia has also a new Mobile TV Phone for DVB-H. It is the N77 phone which is Triband and supports the full terrestrial frequency range of 470-750 MHz.It has a TV application as well as a single button for launch of TV.
sab ullu banate hai apna handset bachne ke liye aur kush nahi.jago grahak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
