How come that this has never been on anyone's agenda before. There are countries where the process of subsidizing handsets is illegal (ie Belgium). Here the manufacurers have been selling their handsets with a profit from day 1. The operators only paid the point of sale an acquisition premium.
Why is is that some executives never bother looking around first before opening their mouth and mutter utter rubbish ?
In other news : I find it only fair that if the Nokias of this world develop a handset that increases data usage get a slice of the pie – but so should the content providers. If I offer a brilliant free service I get Jack from the operators, who in turn live quite well of the expensive data packages. But then again, you have to be rich to become suoer rich I guess.
