Shaadi.com Launches Wedding Directory – Shaadi Pages
The People Group, which runs the matrimonial portal Shaadi.com, has launched Shaadi Pages – an online directory listing for resources for wedding planning. The company claims to have 10,000 listings related to Astrology, Events, Music & Entertainment, Beauty & Grooming, Fashion & Clothing, Decorations, Food & Beverages, Travel & Tours, Invitation cards, Wedding Planners etc. The listing allows to-be-married couples to search for vendors within their city, locality and pincode. [via release]
Mine appears to be a rather work-shy pincode – I found only one vendor for all categories. The entire city of Patna has none…Shaadi needs to get more vendors registered, it seems. Another search reveals that they’ve listed only 304 vendors for the entire city of Delhi, while there are 64 for New Delhi – there’s no real standardization for listings and some vendors haven’t listed their complete addresses. This appears to be a horizontal expansion for the People Group – from match-making to other aspects related to weddings. In the offline world, vendor selection is usually based on recommendations, so ratings, reviews and recommendations would help.
Very good move by Shaadi. People Group is coming up as a leader and evangelizing the matrimony market with some innovation. Wedding Registries is a big market in US and we need to educate metro indian consumers for such phenomenon.
@insightful
innovation ??

there is hardly anything left in wedding market place where you don't have a player so its not innovation that will make a difference. its execution . and its too early to say that and my hunch is that its not a good idea ….. i won't bet arrangement of my [hopefully] once in a life time wedding ceremony to someone i meet our internet .
Well this initiative is quite good. Seems will need some time to catch on and be organised all together. We just need to wait and watch the market.
As for whether we actually need this or not, somtime back we never even thought we could do our 'once in a lifetime wedding' with somone we meet on net or chat!!! But now its very normal and common thanks to all the matrimony sites.. so definitely 3 yrs down the line we would be looking at internet heavily for the arrangements… if we can take contacts from newspapers and handbills then why not websites!!! Good move Shaadi!!!
I will not jump into conclusions. It will take some time until we can say this was a goog move or not. They still have work to do and problems to fix
ShaadiPages.com is there for years and it's seems to be name sake press release.
Check out BharatMatrimony wedding directory which has more and authentic listings.
Bharatmatrimony is an initiative for wedding directory / matrimony diary (http://www.matrimonydiary.com)etc.
Naren: matrimonydiary.com is a diary – not a directory listing of vendors, afaik.
Raj: Thanks, didn't know that shaadipages has been there for years. I just checked and the domain has been there for 5 years, but i couldn't find anything in the internet wayback machine (archive.org). my fault – I wasn't aware of the site.
Yes, i think shaadipages has been around for quite a while. Bharat Matrimony just launched their listings version recently, so the press release might be shaadi.com's response to it.
On a related note (and its a shameless plug, but hey we dont have the marketing budgets of shaadi and bharatmatrimony) –
