Udated: Some Stats On Usage Of Mobile Banking Services
Update: Download the report here.
(Original story: 2007-08-22 11:04 PM)
As per a survey by Sybase 365, among Indian respondents:
- 49 percent used their mobile to check their bank balance in the last three months
- 81 percent were aware of mobile banking services on offer
- 36 percent would switch to a bank that offers free mobile banking services
- 27 percent of respondents would willingly pay for account balance enquiries, 5 percent for information.
- 67 percent would pay for fraud transaction reports and 41 percent for freezing their card
Readers should bear in mind that only 311 Indian mobile customers were surveyed online, and that the survey was commissioned by Sybase 365, which provides mobile applications and services. In all, 11,818 mobile phone subscribers from Australia, China, India, Singapore and Taiwan were surveyed. Agencyfaqs and Economic Times have more details. I couldn’t find any report on the Sybase site, but we have asked them for a copy.
I am amazed at the audacity of people – they survey 311 people (that too online) and are coming up with stats like 81% are aware of mobile banking. Its too much…How can anyone think this survey has any kind of credibility…
Someone needs to tell these people there are 180 million mobile subscribers in India, and a large majority of them do not have access to internet.
And I am disappointed that contentsutra actually reported this suvey! :(
I fully agree with Mr. Yogi.
Access to broadband Internet via computers is still a long way in achieving its target, talking about internet on mobile will take at least another few years before people take to it. Did you know that at least 90% of mobiles do not have a WAP or similar facility. Even if they did, accessing through mobile services is far more expansive. It is cheaper even for the richie guys to send someone to the bank to get the work done.
