Travel Portals Go Mobile: MakeMyTrip-Nokia, Yatra On The Go
– If you caught the Nokia N-Series adverts on TV recently, you might have noticed a tiny MakeMyTrip logo at the bottom during the final frame, below the Nokia N-Series logo. MakeMyTrip launched a mobile application for the Nokia N-Series, which allows users to book flights via GPRS. It’s difficult to get users to download such applications, so they’re probably better off if it comes pre-loaded. However they’re offering a incentive for downloading; details, in a flash heavy page, here. Btw..seen the new viral?
– Yatra too is going mobile with “Yatra.com on the Go!” They’ve launched three products – an SMS booking service via the short code 2622, a WAP site, and a mobile application, which I just downloaded via the WAP site. The company also intends to include hotel bookings, car rentals and bus bookings. More in the release here.
If you ask me, I’d prefer a single application that allows me to search all the online travel sites – not one app for each. Also for my operator to actually activate my GPRS connection, but that’s another story.
I agree on having to go to just one service than 100s of services to find out cheapest fares etc…especially since there have been multiple experiences of MMT/Yatra charging a markup from Rs 20 to Rs 100 on the airline's fare. So these days, I am really wary of going directly to these Yatras/MMTs…generally i go to one of these meta engines, and then book direct from airline..
If you are looking for a single application that offers services like this you should look up http://www.ngpay.com. They have an application that works on GPRS and currently have a few merchants onboard, like Air Deccan and Fame Cinemas to name a few. I belive that are planning on expanding this to a host of other areas including travel, food and so on. All you need is GPRS active on you phone, send an SMS <ngpay> to 6677, you will get a WAP push and download the application.
PLUS from STAR TV's platform is a unique service which not just offers travel services via. MMT & Travel Guru but host of other services like Mobile Banking (HDFC), STAR TV mobisodes of top 15 shows, content on music, movies, sports and much more. To get a detailed demo of the same log onto http://www.getplus.in
Just FYI – You can meta-search all the airlines on your mobile by sending FLY <origin> <destination> <dd.mm> to 8558
So apart from NgPay and Plus who are the other companies who provide single window to all these apps.?
