This is just the silliest thing I've ever heard. An App Store for something that will maybe sell 1000 units if they give it away? No one cares about a tricked-out home phone. They never have, and they never will. Won't the telcos ever learn?
If the "Hub" is very easy to use, then it might be a way to bring limited web experience to elderly people who do not use a computer but might want internet information. However the price is far to expensive for this group and probably a very limited business model. Perhaps something like this makes more sense through the TV than a phone.
From what I readit is powered by the intel Atom chipset so it is more than capable of i-net, games etc and uses open peak technology. I think the former CEO -Scully- of Apple is behind open peak.
Looks like a sexy device though.
I hear the Hub is selling like hotcakes, so I don't think low volume is the question. Sometimes you just want to grab your old reliable apps/widgets quickly instead of logging onto, or powering up, your computer. This makes sense to if you are really busy and multi-tasking at home, like moms. If you aren't managing that kind of lifestyle then this phone will not perhaps not resonate for you.
