Zee Group Announces Break-Away Indian Cricket League
Zee’s Subhash Chandra is playing a Kerry Packer. Chandra has announced a break-away cricket series in India called Indian Cricket League. Zee’s Essel Group will invest Rs 100 crore into the project, and this will run parallel to Board of Control for Cricket In India. ICL will have six teams with four international players in each team. At the end of the third year, there will be 16 teams in ICL.
Packer had launched a similar parallel cricket series called The World Series in 1977. Chandra had a run-in with BCCI since he could not win the broadcast bids last year. Chandra has partnered with IL&FS in the venture. Chandra said this initiative was not in conflict with BCCI. This would be complementary to BCCI, he said.
The league, to be held annually, would have its own contracted Indian and international players, apart from a paid selection committee. The league will start with the Twenty20 format, which is keeping in mind the World Cup of this new version in South Africa later this year.
This year’s league would start any time between July and August. Each team would comprise of two national, four international and eight budding players, who would be selected by the talent scouts. The matches will be played both in the ODI and Twenty20 formats with teams playing on a home and away basis.

Our question: What about the telecast rights for the ICL matches? Does Zee have a monopoly over the match rights?
Its a stunning move by Zee!!! Now lets see if BCCI will drop ANY player.
welldone subhash help the talent from streets of india
and train them to become cricket super players not SUPERSTARS
A step which will change the face of Indian Cricket.
Badhe chalo, Badhe chalo.
Quite a refeshing development!
A country where cricket is religion has to wait for a Manager's report to tell us what's wrong with our Cricket team.Even a kid on the road will tell BCCI what's wrong. Its the players right which came from a body that sent old , out of from players to the World cup.
Zee is just trying to rectify the root of the problem .Challenge an old , staid and mentally bankrupt system and infuse Competitiveness.Throw up talent which u cannot ignore. Talent thats exciting and raring to go !!!
Get them in the publlic eye.
If it wasnt for BCCI we wouldnt be stuck with players who have nothing to offer eexcept their regional affliations .We would have 50 Pontings and 50 shane bonds on the bench , waiting for their turn.
Sachin , Suarav, Sehwag ….They have served us well , we have more than compensated them for it.But time to pay for the dinner on the table.
U got paid for it guys and paid u were like hell!!!
Time for fresh blood to join the party !!
Great work Subhash!!
wow !!! what a sudden & plesantly surprising move. its high time somebody takes the initiative to actually back the 'Talent' & not the 'Models'
Fact is, if Subhash Chandra and his Zeesports can sustain this proposed domestic cricket tournament for more than 5 years – results will flow.
Another failed try it will be otherwise. I wish good luck though..
