European Social Network Passado Receives $13.2 Million Funding

Passado.com, which claims to be one of Europe’s largest social networking sites (and I haven’t even heard of them before) has received $13.2 million in funding, as it plans to expand into Britain, Russia and Italy. The round was led by U.S.-based Tudor Investment Corp. with continued participation from DFJ ePlanet Ventures.
Founded four years ago, London-based Passado.com began as a site for school graduates to stay in touch with one another, but has broadened to include former work colleagues and childhood friends (that probably explains the no-hearing part…it was like Classmates.com, and competing in UK with Friends Reunited, which is now part of ITV). The site, which focuses on older consumers, has more than 5 million registered users in Germany, Spain and Italy. It is planning a UK site in 2007.
