Future Group, Reliance Retail To Bet Big On Online Retail
Business Standard: Now big guys are sprucing up their online retail plans. Future Group (Pantaloon) has already started its e-commerce portal, www.futurebazaar.com, and it plans to develop it even further. Reliance Retail is also said to be planning an online retail channel in addition to their massive offline format. They are said to be following in the footpath of the Wal-Mart.com and Tesco.com. The idea is good. But the hitch is the Indian e-commerce pie is too small for them to pay attention to this business. Indian e-commerce market is currently around Rs 1,100 crore – and a big chunk of it’s e-ticketing. This is expected to touch Rs 2,300 crore in the one year. Reliance Retail is believed to have put in place a team for developing its e-commerce platform.
