Internet On Mobiles Still A Turn-Off
A survey of 1500 British mobile phone users by hosting company Hostway has found that 73% of respondents didn’t access the web from their mobiles. Reasons cited included slow-loading pages (38%) and navigation difficulties (27%). Hostway also claims that a quarter of all web pages aren’t able to be accessed via mobile phone…”There’s nothing wrong with having a flash website with all the bells and whistles you can muster, but you’ve got to be aware that mobile users simply aren’t going to be able to access it,” said Neil Barton, a director of Hostway. There are several suggestions to solving this problem, including .mobi and automatically recognizing the device attempting to read the page and returning an appropriate form…and of course there are those sites that have no interest in being accessed from a mobile.
In a bit of good news the study found that 9 out of 10 respondents said they’d access the internet on mobile phones “providing they could be sure that pages would load faster and they’d avoid high charges”.
