iTunes’ India Push; Hungama Ties Up With Apple For Digitising Indian Tracks
DNA: iTunes is now looking to generate Indian music content in a big way. The beginning has already been made as Indian digital media company Hungama.com has tied up with Apple.

It is true that there are very few content distributors dedicated to Indian music. Kudos to Hungama for being the first Indian company to tie up with iTunes.
It is good to know that all content owners are converging into the digital distribution platforms like iTunes etc. While companies like Saregama & Music Today have put their catalog on iTunes quite a while ago, I came across this web site – http://www.shatatantri.com—which seems to be focussed on distributing Indian music, especially classical.
I am amazed by the amount of Indian music that is available on iTunes! It is unbelievable. However, there are a lot of issues like track names / artist names not being proper, pricing not rationalized etc. Hope those issues get addressed.
I visited http://www.shatatantri.com and found some pretty interesting information about a few of the albums posted on iTunes. Looked quite clean.
I am from India and I tried for an account for itunes and I got a message that the itune services are not available in India… I just baught a 80gb ipod thinking that I could buy music and videos from itunes and well thats out the window, and apple, why make a deal with indian companies if you do not want to give them a account.
I hate apple.
I like to share my collections both recorded and collected from different sources.
iTunes is not yet available in India. I think it takes a lot of work, including liasing with the government, to open an online store like iTunes in a country. iTunes is available only in the following countries as of now:
US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, 14 other EU countries, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
NNNickkk – don't be so unhappy. Even prominent countries like Singapore are yet to be blessed by iTunes. Asian/African/South American markets are too deeply inflicted by piracy and it might be a difficult thing to sell in those markets…
